Zenith 8-S-129 Tombstone (1937)
(x tube tombstone radio)

Zenith 8-S-129 Tombstone (1937)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

As you have followed my page, you have seen a wide selection of these American classics. This is the first eight-tube model that I have shown at the Attic. These sets are so impressive in size and quality, getting a collector to let go of one is nearly impossible. This example is a combination of American walnut and a couple of exotic veneers that I do not recognize. Zenith was known to buy these exotic woods and add them to their radios at random; the result is stunning! The novel tuning ball on the upper side of the dial is like the early tuning shadow meters, and just predates the tuning-eye radios. This feature and the total compliment of controls made this radio the Caddie of its time. My technician, a lifelong Zenith collector, has given this set an extra dose of care. It will play for years on the level of his restorative efforts. Tremendous sound, impressive size, fine artistry and the highest quality of electronics for the era, make this a must own radio! 23"H x 17"Wx 14"D.
