Radio Lamp Corporation of America (1948)
(metal tube novelty radio)

Radio Lamp Corporation of America (1948)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here is one of the most unusual novelty radios ever made. The company, which was a small factory based in Los Angeles, produced two styles of table lamp radios. This model is the more desired and often referred as the "mushroom." The radio is a plated model, and although described when new, as brass, the natural aging has changed the patina to a copper-like color. This was an expensive radio to buy, as it is one of the finest examples in original condition I have seen in forty five years. The plating is still very good, with only a few scratches and virtually no pitting. The lamp portion is a torchiere style lamp with the light subtly rising from the body of the set. The speaker is housed inside the shade and projects the sound vertically out the top. The radio is an All American Five chassis, which is a fine super-het radio. The dial is perfect, and everything is factory original with the exception of the new power cord and plug. My technician has done a complete repair and the lamp and radio perform perfectly. These are scarce radios, and to find one in this fine of condition is a rare treat. A must for a radio collector's office or study. 21"H x 15"W.
