Emerson AR173 (1938)
(wood tube table radio)

Emerson AR173 (1938)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This is a stunning large tabletop radio, rather rare and seldom seen for sale (never offered on the Radio Attic, and very little info found on the web). Cabinet is by Ingraham, and it was one of many Art Deco radios by Emerson for the 1938 model year, with the "Miracle Tone Chamber." It is a six-tube superhet and has been completely restored inside and out. Plays great on AM Broadcast band (only, short wave is disabled). Smooth and very attractive figured walnut veneers, and beautiful large dial that lights up brightly. Chassis and speaker are very clean (pics are available). Complete electronic restoration was performed, replacing old capacitors, out of tolerance resistors, band alignment, and bad or marginal tubes. The finish was restored with nitrocellulose lacquer, same as originally. It sold in 1938 for $49.95, that is $821 in today's money! It works very well with just a short wire antenna (included). Aux input cable was added so you can plug in an iPod, CD player, etc. and play audio through the radio. Bluetooth receiver can be added and you can stream your tunes from your phone, computer, etc. 90 day warranty. 19"W x 11"H x 8-1/2"D.
