| Among vintage novelty radios, the Colonial New World Globe is the MOST sought-after radio in the hobby. This unique five-tube AC/DC set uses the following tube types: 6A7 oscillator/mixer, 78 IF amplifier, 75 detector/AVC, 43 audio output and 25Z5 rectifier. The tube filaments are wired in series and a resistance line cord drops the line voltage to the required filament voltage. The Globe was offered in natural brown, white, and black Bakelite. This BLACK beauty has been thoroughly preserved to play with amazing sensitivity using only a few feet of antenna wire. Circling the globe at its equator is a stunning brass-plated metal ring. At the top is a decorative brass-plated finial showing the compass directions. Wheel-shaped brass-plated knobs control power, volume and tuning. I had the brass plating professionally performed several years ago. The radio has its original gold-leaf mapping as the pictures show. As is typical on this set, the mapping is slightly faded in sections but overall, it presents beautifully. The top half of the globe does have a tight hairline with minor chipping as I've tried to picture. In all, this Colonial Globe is very RARE and an exceptional specimen. |
