Minerva W-117 "Tropic Master" (1945)
(metal tube portable radio w/SW)

Minerva W-117 "Tropic Master" (1945)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

An original radio made exclusively for U.S. military personnel in the Pacific theater as a "morale booster." It has a rugged, steel case. The dial is lighted. Excellent reception on both bands. It has a tone control and I've added a wire for an antenna. Just put behind your furniture. Heavy at 18 pounds. This radio was manufactured by Minerva Radio Corporation of America. This set, went into production late in the war, during the mid-summer of 1945. At that time, many anticipated at least another year or more of long and bloody battle during the invasion of the Japanese mainland. Perhaps the best thing about the Tropic Master radio is the audio quality. A large 6-inch speaker, combined with the overbuilt push-pull audio circuit featuring two 25L6 vacuum tubes, provides a rich, full sound. This is the type of radio that makes AM radio sound good, not just for the usual news and sports broadcasts, but also for music. One can imagine a group of men and ladies listening to Glenn Miller or Harry James on this unit. Visitors who hear the radio instantly comment, "Wow, that radio sounds great." This is a rare radio, especially in this superb condition. 15"W x 9"H x 9"D.
