General Electric GD-41 TRF (1938)
(wood tube table radio)

General Electric GD-41 TRF (1938)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

TRF sets provided an economical alternative to superheterodynes, mainly during the Depression era. This model uses four vacuum tubes plus a ballast. The latter is now defunct, its function handled by an inductor permanently wired-in, while the tube ballast remains in place to preserve the original appearance. The pretty surface of the wooden cabinet is merely printed or lithographed, not veneered. There are a few nicks and scratches on top. Offered as a collectible item, this set works OK but it's a small TRF that cannot compete in performance or audio quality with small superheterodynes of the same era. Requires at least an indoor antenna. 11"W x 8"H x 7"D.
