Emerson FC-400 "Aristocrat" Catalin (1940)
(Catalin tube table radio)

Emerson FC-400 "Aristocrat" Catalin (1940)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Emerson commissioned the noted industrial designer, Norman Bel Geddes, to design a series of radios in 1940, and the Aristocrat resulted. Because Catalin as a material was very unstable and prone to shrinkage and warping, it is hard to find a radio such as this one in good condition. The case has no cracks and very little indication of warping. The dial lights up beautifully. We have put a lot of internal work into this radio. Our technician removed the broken electrodynamic speaker and installed a new one. He fabricated a bracket for this speaker and output transformer, installed a filter choke, replaced bad wax and filter capacitors. He replaced one out of tolerance resistor, fabricated a radio back, performed a full alignment, and re-glued the dial face. He cleaned its chassis, cleaned and conditioned the volume control and tuning capacitor and replaced its dial cover. This radio will be a great addition to your collection. This Emerson looks and plays the part very well.
