Telefunken Operette 7 AM/FM (1956/57)
(wood tube table radio)

Telefunken Operette 7 AM/FM (1956/57)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

After WWII, at a European radio conference, Germany lost most of its AM radio frequencies. To adapt to this turn of events, Germany quickly adopted FM, and by the mid-1950s became the leading country in the world in use of the FM band. As a result, 1950s German FM radios are among the finest of that era, with exceptional sensitivity and high fidelity. Telefunken is the quintessential German brand and this radio will impress you with its sound quality and general performance. Built for the German market (not an export version), it tunes 87.5 - 100 MHz FM, reflecting what Germany had at the time. It also covers AM, short wave, and long wave, and has a phonograph input which can be used for a CD player or iPod. Speakers include a large 6" x 9" woofer and two side-firing tweeters, for what they called "3-D sound." The chassis has been thoroughly restored to top performance, with new capacitors, a full IF/RF alignment on all bands, strong tubes, and a new polarized power cord. The cabinet was refinished long ago, but still looks excellent, with very few nicks and defects. 21-3/4"W x 14-1/2"H x 9-1/4"D.
