Philco 630 Tombstone AM/SW (1936)
(wood tube tombstone radio w/SW)

Philco 630 Tombstone AM/SW (1936)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The years 1936-38 were the peak in terms of AM radio technology and innovation. Radios during this time were built to impress the customer with just how good a radio could be -- especially compared to the primitive radios produced just a few years earlier. This mid-range Philco 630 has a parallax-free dial, coarse/fine Vernier tuning drive, and an elaborate dial and escutcheon. By the end of the decade, such frills were disappearing as costs were reduced. The "shouldered tombstone" cabinet on this one has been refinished to restore its original appearance, and the six-tube chassis has been restored to perfect operation, with all new capacitors, new resistors where needed, a strong set of tubes, and a thorough RF/IF alignment on all bands. The original 8-inch speaker is in perfect condition and sounds great; the shadow meter (visual tuning aid) works perfectly. Sensitivity, selectivity, and sound quality are superb. A new vintage-style cord has been installed, keeping the original round plug. Knobs, grille cloth, and escutcheon are original. 19-3/4"H x 14-1/2"W x 9"D.
