Continental Radio and Television Corp. was founded in 1934 right in the middle of the depression. Their brand name was Admiral. The investors literally sold their personal belongings to start the company. By 1939 they were 5th in sales and later sold 5 million TV sets, producing the first color set in 1951. The 4204-WC is a six-tube, AM only set. The radio is well made, and has an internal loop antenna. Blake started by replacing all of the capacitors. The tubes and resistors were checked and replaced where necessary. He installed an audio cable and a new power cord. Gary did a nice job on the cabinet. He used a darker color to highlight areas of the set, and a wooden lyre sits in front of the original grille cloth. The radio retains the original knobs and speaker. Gary then polished it to a "piano" lacquer finish. A unique and beautiful radio for your collection! 12"W x 9"H x 7"D. |
