The 1933 Chicago Exposition had huge influence in the design of American products, especially radios. The 463 was one of the first "smart sets" for Grigsby-Grunow, and the whole line that year reflected the modernistic themes of the exposition. Despite the resurgence in sales the new designs created, Grigsby-Grunow could not overcome the debts of the economic collapse of 1929, and the company declared bankruptcy in 1934. The 463 is a six-tube, SB only set. Blake replaced all of the capacitors, then checked resistors and tubes, replacing where necessary. A nice cloth power cord was installed, along with an audio cable and safety fuse. The set has good selectivity across the dial. The radio has its original finish (restored) and the chrome grille is in good shape with a little wear. The grille cloth, knobs, chassis and speaker are all original. A great collector piece, they still get a lot of attention, just like when they were first produced. 13"H x 13"W x 10"D. |
