Philco 39-30 (1938-1939)
(wood tube table radio w/SW)

Philco 39-30 (1938-1939)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

I think when Philco introduced the model 39-30 the Philco cabinet guys must have gone out to the woodshed and rounded up everything they could find. I think I counted six kinds of wood, all of it gorgeous. With several bands of contrasting inlays and marquetry, the cabinet on this radio is quite spectacular. The dial is backlit with a very bright number 55 lamp and nicely illuminates the see-through red buttons. The receiver is quite good on broadcast and passable on shortwave, and the sound is decent. I have a ton of work in this set as I had to do a lot of veneer repair, make a dial glass, and I had to make the unique clear red buttons, which are passable but not perfect. The chassis was extremely rusty so I had to strip it and paint it. I also had to replace most of the rubber wiring. I replaced all of the capacitors, resistors as necessary, and gave it a full alignment. It has a very good set of tubes in it for long service life. This is a unique and beautiful radio and would be a real eye catcher on the kitchen counter or in your collection. 19-1/2"W x 11"H x 10-1/4"D.
