THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
The "Black Hippo" was produced only in 1949, the last year that the "Hippo" in any color appeared among Philco's line-up. Make note that, according to Philco Radio Gallery, this ebony black Bakelite model replaced the walnut Bakelite version originally introduced in January 1946 but no longer available after 1948. Seldom seen, this stunning black Bakelite example has been totally restored inside and out. It is completely original except for its correct replacement back panel. Its painted dial is free of any crackling, and its hand-polished cabinet is free of any cracks, chips or hairlines. All electrolytics and weak tubes have been replaced, tuning aligned and adjusted to factory specs. It uses six tubes and is one of my best players ever, picking up all my local stations loud and clear across the AM dial. Another great radio from my personal, smoke-free collection. About 12"W x 7"D x 7"H. |
