Silvertone 4640 (1937)
(wood tube table radio)

Silvertone 4640 (1937)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This rare "farm radio" is the first one ever offered on Radio Attic! Marketed to rural areas, it was originally powered by a 6 volt car battery! To bring it up to date, a full AC power supply was hand built from scratch just for this set. It now plugs into any wall outlet just as any modern radio would without compromising the original vibrator supply. Have over 150 dollars invested in the power supply alone. It plays as good as it looks. Receives all the local AM stations (plus Short Wave and the old Police Band) with an attached long wire antenna. With 1V tubes, it plays as soon as you turn it on, no warm up time! The chassis was gone through with new filter & paper capacitors. All seven tubes (including a still bright green eye tube) tested good. Tube sockets cleaned as was the volume control. Tuner was cleaned and lubed for smooth operation. Has a factory "slip clutch" feature for fine tuning. Beautiful mirror dial. Cabinet was completely refinished using spray toners with some minor wood blemishes remaining. New dial cover. Original grille cloth, as well as the Tenite knobs and dial escutcheon (has one minor crack but minimal warpage!). 19-1/4"W x 13"H x 10-1/4"D.
