THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD! |
First example of this model to be listed on Radio Attic! 1942 was a year of change and sacrifice as America began its first full year fighting a world war. Manufacture of civilian radios ceased by March of that year "for the duration." So for the family that purchased this seven-tube Belmont, it literally took them through the war. News from overseas, FDR's speeches, Bob Hope's USO shows all emanated from its speaker via the AM & Shortwave bands. It's been restored to perform as it did 80 years ago, with all new filter and paper capacitors, strong tested tubes. Tube sockets cleaned as was the volume control. Tuner was cleaned and lubricated for smooth operation. New line cord. It has a built in loop antenna for AM, and a long wire antenna for shortwave. The cabinet finish, knobs, and dial cover are all original! Only the grille cloth was replaced. Of course there is some minor wear and blemishes as to be expected after 80 years, but all in all this is an extremely well preserved artifact of the war years. A true time capsule! 17-1/4"W x 9-1/2"H x 8-1/2"D. |
