Philco 20 "Baby Grand" (1930)
(wood tube cathedral radio)

Philco 20 "Baby Grand" (1930)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The model 20 is an historic radio, widely hailed as the first cathedral style radio produced. While some may point to others from that general time frame such as the Echophone S-3 as being among the first, this set is certainly the one that popularized the cathedral design. It was hugely popular, an instant success. Philco introduced this model in August of 1930, and it was produced until January of 1931. This is the very early model, before a dial light was added at some point during the initial run. It's been totally recapped, with a set of good-tested tubes, and plays well across the dial with an antenna attached. New cloth covered line cord, chassis was cleaned and painted. The cabinet has been refinished and the grille cloth replaced. The usually hopelessly damaged or missing intricate grille lattice work is all intact. The knobs are original as is the speaker. 17-1/2"H x 16"W x 10"D.
